Theatre is about making connections… creating cohesion where there is discord and finding understanding in that which has been separated. This is ultimately what our 2013 Broadway By the Bay Season is about – coming together. We are showcasing 4 blockbuster musicals, including a classic holiday production, for the first time in our company’s history to create awareness and enthusiasm about who we are and why we are essential to the community. CATS tells the remarkable story of the Jellicles and the fate of one cat who will be chosen to come back to a new life; Oliver reveals the courageous voyage of a young child determined to find his way in the world; Cabaret welcomes the audience to a magical retreat within the Kit Kat Klub while an era of tumultuous change grows outside it’s walls; Guys and Dolls is a discovery of unlikely relationships finding love in the Big Apple; and It’s a Wonderful Life explores the life of George Bailey and his search for meaning on one fateful Christmas Eve. Our 2013 artistic programming will prompt our patrons to think differently and see life differently, while recognizing and appreciating life’s intrinsic quality and that everything is connected.
We are bringing people together, all ages and ethnicities, to celebrate musicals that are meaningful, inspiring and important to everyone. The artists involved are also apart of this connection because they are actively apart of this community and raise the bar for local talent. Their work and contributions help to continually address the importance of the arts and the essential impact that theatre has in the growth and development of our culture. Broadway By the Bay also has the resources to support the high production value of these productions, such as CATS, and maintain the visual spectacle that is always so exciting for our patrons. We are dedicated to sharing this storytelling art form and further engage our community through the power of musical theatre.
